Disney+ kicks off holiday festivities this Friday, December 24, when Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” launches on the streamer. In a new featurette, Lin-Manuel Miranda—who wrote eight original songs for the film—teams up with the voice of Mirabel, Stephanie Beatriz, to share insights about several of the film’s songs. Miranda, who visited Colombia with directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard in 2018, infused the songs with the rhythms, instrumentation and varied styles of the South American country’s music. “’Encanto’ takes place in rural Colombia,” said Miranda, “and the music that comes out of Colombia is so beautiful.”

In the film, Mirabel often reveals her internal struggles and revelations through song. Said Beatriz, “There’s something that clicks inside her where she realizes the wheels are in motion for her to chase down her destiny. I like these heroine songs so much. We go on this major journey with the character and suddenly we know her better from the inside.”

Celebrate with Miranda, Beatriz and the rest of the “Encanto” family when “Encanto” debuts on Disney+ on Christmas Eve.

Lyrics:

Broken are the pieces
I’ve been shaping lately
Focused on the things
That didn’t make no sense
Guess that growing up
Was never meant to be easy
Yeah I got used to doing everything sideways
Didn't really care about how anyone felt
Hiding my emotions down in different ashtrays

But what is lost ain’t gone
No you can’t just let go
Cause it’s a part of you that
Will make you strong
Embrace your flaws

I’m not gonna fight back
What I’ve become
Yeah I got bruises
Where I came from
But I wouldn’t change
If I could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars
I’ve been going way too hard on myself
Guess that is the reason I’ve been feeling like hell
But I wouldn’t change
If I could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars

I went down a road, that only got me nowhere
I’ve seen every corner, every inch of this place
Being all alone, it really got me thinking
Maybe overthinking

That what is lost ain’t gone
No you can’t just let go
Cause it’s a part of you that
Will make you strong
Embrace your flaws

I’m not gonna fight back
What I’ve become
Yeah I got bruises
Where I came from
But I wouldn’t change
If I could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars
I’ve been going way too hard on myself
Guess that is the reason I’ve been feeling like hell
But I wouldn’t change
If could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars

Hide these beautiful scars
Hide these beautiful scars

I’m not gonna fight back
What I’ve become
Yeah I got bruises
Where I came from
But I wouldn’t change
If I could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars
I’ve been going way too hard on myself
Guess that is the reason I’ve been feeling like hell
But I wouldn’t change
If could restart
I ain’t gonna hide these
Beautiful scars

Lil Nas X ft. Jack Harlow - The Making of INDUSTRY BABY | Vevo Footnotes

Lil Nas X behind bars? Oh yeah. By now the world knows that the controversial "INDUSTRY BABY" is a high water mark video, an eye-popper with a great storyline that also makes a valuable statement. As usual, Footnotes gets behind the creative process of the shoot, talks to those in charge, and delivers insights into the artist's message. Of the provocative nude shower scene, LNX says that "he wanted the visuals to go to a place people would least expect me to go, an overly masculine place, and make it gay af." He also wanted the video to help fans visualize the theme of "breaking free from the shackles society places on you." Yep, some videos are more than mere entertainment. Find out about those Grammys in the jail cell, the 'Shawshank Redemption' influence, and the superstar twerking in front of Jack Harlow. All the answers await.
